The All American Hockey League was a class-A professional minor hockey league that played from 2008 to 2011. Its seasons were known for constant upheaval and turnover, with teams leaving and entering mid-season.
The league began in 2008-09 as the All American Hockey Association, with four teams - the Chi-town Shooters, Battle Creek Revolution, Evansville IceMen, and Detroit Dragons. Midway through the season, the Detroit Dragons folded. Since this would have left the league with only three teams, the Chicago Blaze were entered into the league to finish off the season, assuming the road schedule of the Dragons.
The league renamed itself to the All American Hockey League for their second season in 2009-10. The four teams remaining from 2008-09 were joined by two new teams - the Madison Ice Muskies and the Detroit Hitmen. The Chicago Blaze folded mid-December, and the Detroit Hitmen moved to Muskegon to become the West Michigan Blizzard. The Madison Muskies folded in... [Click for more] mid-January.
The AAHL's third season is best called confusing. The league started out with six teams, but before the season started, the Madison Ice Muskies relocated to Wooster, Ohio, and were named the Wooster Korn Kings. They lasted just 5 games before folding on November 17. The Indiana Blizzard (formerly the West Michigan Blizzard from the previous season), based in Dyer, Indiana, ceased operations on December 29, and the Chi-Town Shooters took over their record, schedule, and home arena, also playing out of Dyer even though their name suggested ties to Chicago.
On January 3, the league took over the Lapeer Loggers. Several days later the Troy Bruins and Queen City Storm folded. Lapeer was renamed the Michigan Moose, and they assimilated players from Lapeer, Troy, and Queen City. The Moose played were based in Battle Creek, the same arena as the Battle Creek Revolution. They played just a handful of games before the league cancelled the rest of the season and scheduled a championship series between Battle Creek and Chi-Town.
