Greensboro Generals Statistics and History [EHL]
The Greensboro Generals were a hockey team that played in the Eastern Hockey League from 1959 to 1973. Although the team was technically classified as amateur, the players were recruited from Canada to play for the team, were paid, and were of high caliber, so the team was professional except in name.
In February 1959 the EHL granted a franchise to the Greensboro Memorial Coliseum Commission for a team to play in the Greensboro Memorial Coliseum. Local ownership was sought for the franchise, and in April a group known as Central Carolina Sports Inc. was formed by residents of Greensboro to take over the franchise. The owners found a team willing to relocate to Greensboro - the Troy Bruins of the International Hockey League.
The Greensboro Generals played in the EHL until 1972-73, when they, along with three other teams, announced that they would leave the EHL to form the Southern Hockey League. The franchise dissolved along with the league in May 1973.
