Troy Slapshots Statistics and History
The Troy Slapshots were a minor professional hockey team based in Troy, New York. They were a member of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League for the 1986-87 season. The Slapshots were originally supposed to be based in Staten Island, New York, however the rink they were scheduled to play at was never built so the team relocated.
The Troy Slapshots played at the Houston Field House on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Although RPI was known for its own successful Division I NCAA hockey program, that did not translate into a demand for low minor league hockey. The Slapshots drew crowds of just a few hundred people, and on November 17, 1986, they dropped out of the league.
The ACHL granted the rights of the Slapshots players to the Mohawk Valley Comets, and many of the the players wound up with that team.
