Sadley, Mr Gump Worsley, one of the all-time greatest goalies has passed away. He had a heart attack on Monday and never recovered. He was 77.
He was a great man, a great hockey player, a true gentleman and a great character, he will be sorely missed by all.

I had a chance to meet Mr. Worsley a few years ago and I must admit he was one of the friendliest and classiest men I have ever met, it would have been a priviledge to meet a man of his character even if he wasn't an NHL legend. The world has lost a truly special person. Anyone can atest that he was quick with a smile and would autograph anything for anyone, no matter if they were 2 years old or 90, I along with all NHL fans will trully miss that bumpy looking guy affectiontly know as Gump. Godspeed Friend.

When I started collecting autographs last year he was the first person I sent a card to. It came back quickly with a very nice signature on it. I was so excited and hooked on collecting autographs after that. Thank you Mr. Worsley. RIP

i think i got lucky, i got his card back in the mail last friday... 2 days later he had the stroke...
Gump has always been like that, always thinking of the fans, literally until his final days... hes the sort of person the new NHL needs, not just cuz he signs ttm but because he was a great person

My favorite hockey headline in the New York daily newspapers occured when Gump was trying to play with an injury and was reinjured in the middle of a game.

I met him a few times when he was a scout for the Minnesota North Stars back in the very early 80's,(79-80) season. Got my pic taken with him, he signed a few cards, and i got the photo signed when he came back. This was in Winnipeg, when we had a team.

I got a card back on Thurs 2/1/07. He must have signed it within the last few days of his life. I was so suprised to get it back!

Oh man...I was actually going to write to Gump Worsley within the next few days, until I saw this post.
Man...even though I never saw him play (I was born in 1975), his autobiography, "They Call Me Gump", was one of my favorite books. Long out of print, I finally tracked down a copy of it a few years back.
I am sad to hear that such a great player has passed away. And I will regret never sending him my fan letter.
