Last time I heard, Ross Johnstone was still alive, and living in Etobicoke, ON (I think on Larose Ave.). Lorne Carr passed away last year. Bill Ezinicki is living somewhere in MA, but as far as I know, he doesn't sign through the mail.

good from ,2006*sept.

To set some things straight, red carr and lorne carr are two very different people, lorne carr is deceased while im quite sure that red carr is not, bill benson is living but does not sign due to health issues, clint smith is suffering from dementia and is extremely hit and miss as he lives in an apartment building with another clint smith in it, i have the apt. # around somewhere but am unable to find it as of now. Also am pretty sure eznicki does not sign, and finally i had a success with suomi about 1 month ago.

Clint Smith took about 5 weeks back in January 2008.

Al Suomi was 10 days in March 2008.

Last summer I stopped in to meet Coach Armstrong and have him sign a few graphs. He was awesome having just come in from the golf course. He invited me and my daughter into his study where he fielded a call from his retired son and then signed my things. We looked at the photos on his walls and he narrated a few of them. He then related that he is the oldest living former Maple Leaf. He's got a pretty decent signature considering his age. Oddly, he lives on the northeast coast of Florida while most retired NHL guys live south or on the gulf coast in the Tampa area.

Would you mind posting his address? I couldn't find in in the threat. Thanks in advance!

I was given this address on here and I haven't gotten a reply from him and that over 6 weeks ago... so don't get your hopes up.

If anyone else has any more real old time hockey or baseball players addresses who played in the 30's and 40's, please add them !

I had a success with that address about 4 months ago, took about 1.5-2 months for a return, don't give up just yet.

The Don Willson address is the same I have in my files, so it should be him.
Thanks Dennel.

I have Bill Jennings noted as deceased in my archive, 11-29-1999 in New Carlisle, Ohio, but I'm not 100% sure if it's really him.

My father Bill Jennings (new carlisle ohio) did pass on 11/29/1999

By the way, I had a success from Reg Sinclair. Sent it to his Canada addy, but received it back from his GA addy (he added a 41 cent stamp over mine, which as you all know, usually isn't enought to get a letter back to Canada). It must be a winter home as I sent there before and received an RTS and he had the return addy sticker covered over my addy..

Was wondering if anyone has gotten anything back from Al Suomi lately. Like Way123hockey, I received one in March 2008 after about a 2 month wait. All I had at the time were ICs and he signed and returned two. In August I sent a small photo but haven't seen it since and I don't recall any other recent successes. Just wondering if anybody's heard anything.

Does anyone have an address for and possibly the most recent success for:

Don Willson b.1914
Alf Pike b.1917
John MaHaffy b.1919
Jean Bourcier b.1911 I don't recall seeing a date of death for him.

I had more players that I wanted to ask, but I can't find the list I made. Does anyone have a list off hand of living ex NHLers who played at least 1 game in the 1930's, ones who played in the early 40's (being on cup winners too !) and if they still are in good enough health to sign autographs through the mail ?

there is no address for Don Willson, Jean Bourcier is presumed deceased, I was told Alf Pike no longer signs due to health but will stamp your items. there is an address somewhere for Mahaffy, just can't find it right now.

I've had one out to Alf Pike since June 23, 2008 with no response, so apparently he's not even stamping anymore. Address for Mahaffy is: 6 Argyle Avenue: Apt 903; Saint Lambert, QC J4P 2H5.

Thanks for the update. I found some more old time players without a date of death. Does anyone know if these players are still alive and/or still signs through the mail ?

Stan Smith b.1917
Gaston Leroux b.1913
Jack Howard b.1915
Ron Hudson b.1911
Gord Reid b.1912
George Brown b.1912
Paul Gauthier b.1915

Sorry if I've asked about the same player twice. Its get a little confusing with big lists lol. I think we should all make a new master list of every living ex NHLer who was born in the 1920s and before with address listed.

Thanks again guys !

Nobody responded to my questions in my previous post lol... does anybody have an update on the players above ^^^ ?

unfortunately I do not believe there is information on the players you have listed, such a list already exists it contains the names of all the players who played from 1944 and earlier, it has only a few addresses to match the names. i think the thread is called living pre 1944 nhlers.

Return today from Bob Fillion. It took exactly 4 months but he signed the small photo I sent, two 3x5 cards and small photo of his own. He asked for a $5 contribution the Canadian Alzheimers fund which is on the way.

My Grampa is Lou Holmes. He is still alive and living in Edmonton, Alberta. He turned 99 on January 29th of this year.

To Spartacus, please contact me through here to discuss your post in December 2007 and the response letter you received.

Thank you.

I remember seeing somewhere on the site that there was an actual hockey card from the 1930s (World Wide Gum? Ice Kings?) of a player who is on the oldest player list. Does anybody remember the player or the card? I'd like to give this one a try if I can find the card. I did 1951 Parkies a few years back and wouldn't mind trying for something a bit older. Any help will be appreciated.

That's terrible news.

It feels weird when a player you have had success ttm passes away. Mr Armstrong was the next player I was going to write to again.

Now, to my knowledge, there are only 4 living NHLers who played at least one game in the 1930s (1936-37 season is the earliest) : Al Suomi, Milt Schmidt, Wally Stanowski and Pete Langelle.

Unfortunately, there's been a few guys pass away recently.

besides Armstrong and Langelle; Ed Litzenberger, Gaye Stewart (Nov 18), Len Lunde (Nov 22), and Vic Lynn (Dec 6)

R.I.P. all

I didn't know that Vic Lynn had passed away. More terrible news...

That's another player I was going to write for the second time that recently passed. This is very eerie...

For the baseball fans, a few of the oldest baseball players recently passed: Art Mahan (97) and George Binks (96)
