I had sent Ed a card to sign and a letter. He just so happened to be in Winnipeg that day (a few years ago) and decided to come over to drop off my cards and meet me to say hi. I used my in laws address as we were thinking about moving. So he comes over to my in laws looking for me. My mother in law tells him where I live and gives him the address. So he comes over to my place. My wife informs him I am still at work, but will be back around 16:00. She calls my brother and asks who Ed Staniowski was. He tells her who he is and asks why. She says that he was here looking for me and will be back in about an hour. The phone wasn't even hung up, and my brother is at our house with stuff for him to sign. Ed showed up at 16:00 and came in. We had a great visit. He had a ton of signed Jets stuff for me, met my family and had some pictures taken with us. What a great guy! It would have been easy for him just to sign the stuff and put it in the mail, or leave it at my in laws, but he wanted to meet me to thank me for sending him a nice letter. He is one of the good guys in hockey. Thanks Ed. What a great guy!

That is one of the coolest stories I have ever heard!! I think I would have
s--t myself if I came home and found a hockey player waiting for me with my cards!!

I had the same thing happen, but with Barry Beck.. He came over to my home on Christmas Eve a few years back...I sent to him C/O the NHLPAA.. Someone he knew lived in Brantford or Paris. So he thought we would return my cards and sign them in person and thank me for my kind letter. But unfortunatley I worked for a slave driver then and was at work for a half day and missed him..

Great story. I asked him if he knew 2 guys that were in the forces. One i went to school with and one i played hockey with. He said yes he did know them and that they were good soldiers. Small world, in the fact that he knew 2 guys that i know. He was always a great signer when he was with the Jets.

A few years ago, I wrote to Norm Ullman about signing my Leafs jersey. He called me, and said that he wouldn't mind - even stopped by my office.
I sent a letter to Earl Balfour about signing the same jersey - stopped by teh house on his way home from work.

Killer stories!!! The best I can do is a few American football players calling me on the phone to discuss their careers and find old cards of themselves. Nothing like having an NHL player stop by your house. Unreal!!!

I had been sending to Staniowski when his address was listed as in Saskatchewan. Both letters came back RTS, so I posted him under my "Failures" section of my website. A few months later, I get an email from his wife, who says she came upon my site, and wanted to pass on his current mailing address and email address.
He and I emailed back and forth a few times, and he said ot never hesitate to send items to be signed, as he loves hearing form his fans. I've been humming and hawing about sending him my multi signed Jets jersey, so he can add to it, but I haven't worked up the guts to yet.
A real class act.

After I received Lt. Col. Staniowski back a month ago, I mailed him a thank you card at the Winnipeg address. It came RTS a few weeks ago and someone wrote on the envelope to "Try Kingston". Maybe that's a clue someone could follow up on to find him again.

If he's in the military it's a distinct possibility that he has been transferred, I do know of a military base in Kingston, perhaps you could contact someone on the base see if you could come up with something.
