I'm surprised many guys would sign that many cards. How many do you usually send? And do guys always sign all for you or sometimes return some unsigned?

it just depends on the player. some will sign a whole bunch in the mail, some will sign just a few, and some will sign only one. just to be safe i usually send 3 or 4.

As mentioned, it just depends on the player. I figure they'll sign what they want and keep what they want, I'm just happy with what they send back. Recently, I've been toning it down to 3-6 since postage was getting expensive for sending a higher volume and a higher incidence of RTS recently. I was also sending a blue sharpie along and they usually keep it, so I figure that's a good tradeoff if they sign a few extra. Plus, I haven't bought any new cards in 11 years, so this is a 'terminal' hobby for me. Once I'm done with a player, I'll never seek his signature again.

16 cards is way to many to send thats ridiculus. i send 3 normally or maximum 4. Would sign 16 cards for someone. i wouldnt.

I am in agreement.

I think that is a crazy amount of cards to be sent. No wonder players are getting turned off of the through the mail things. I mean it's Jason Bonsignore (above), so I'm sure he doesn't get much mail, but come on.

Hopefully none of those signed cards make it to Ebay.

You won't believe it, but I actually saw someone selling those Molson cards that Montreal greats send along with the cards they sign as a nice gesture. Henri Richard always sends an extra signed Molson card for FREE. Someone was selling it on Ebay for $12. What if Henri saw, or got word of this?? That may ruin it for everyone else who genuinely want these great players signatures as keep sakes!

I couldn't believe it!!

Couldn't agree with you more. I just got into TTM and even though I have ground to make up, I wouldn't think of sending lots of cards at once. So you suck up sending several envelopes over a period of time. After all, are we doing this to get the guys autos or for profit. For me its the fun and that I have something for my kids. Hopefully a few bad apples dont spoil it for the rest of us....................

That's horrible that someone was selling the free signed Richard. Geez...

Let me add this, I have been collecting for over 20 years in person and thru the mail. I have never sold an autograph I've gotten and never will, this is a hobby for me and if I had to depend on feeding my wife and kids off of autographs we would have starved years ago. Personally I don't usually send doubles and if I do I usually ask the player to sign the back since they usually have a different photo on the back. I think the most I have sent is maybe 10 or 11 and they were all from different sets and different cards. If I do send that many I explain to the player they are all different/no doubles and to feel free to keep any they want for themselves and to only sign what they feel ok with. So I think that everyone is different and that maybe sending a large number is ok depending on the player ect..

I am not defending anyone but I will say this, just because someone sends a large number I don't think its fair to say they are going to sell any of them or the hobby is going to be ruined for everyone..... I am sure there are peolpe who send 1 or 2 and they both end up on ebay, but lets be realistic how much could a Pete Caviglica?? card sell for on ebay??? $1.00
Just a few thoughts for everyone to ponder..

If anyone finds someone on this board who is selling there ttm autos, they should let everyone else know! I hate when people betray players who kindly sign for free.

I feel I should add this, I've been collecting for a few years now, I personally don't see a problem with selling autographs or trading them, having doubles makes them easier to part with because you know you have another copy, I personally do sell autographs to card shops, I would only sell to collectors who I believe to be true fans of the game, furthermore that would only be if said players autograph is unavailable TTM or that player is deceased. those are just my thoughts.
