I had the same kind of success with Hackett late last season c/o the Avs. He signed 2 cards, and it took about a month.

My only experience with Hackett shows he might take a while to answer. I wrote to him c/o the Avs back on November 23, 2007 and received my answer on May 5, 2008. He did sign the card I sent - no team 5x7 or preprint.

The Avalanche coaching staff gets their mail, and usually are pretty good with responding. The same can be said for other traditionally poor signing teams like the Rangers and Devils.

I think what likely happens is the team managements offers the players an option of receiving their mail, or having the front office take care of it. For those who opt out of receiving it themselves, the office sends out the pre-signed, team cards. The players probably don't ever se the mail, unless, the person who's handling it deems it special (sick kids, family/relative, etc.)
