I thought I'd just put all of my successes into one thread, rather than making a new one every time I get a success ttm. I don't have all of the original dates when I sent them out and when I received them, but every success is from Feb 2009-present. The first 4 were sent in the first week on Jan. and I received autographs in the first week of Feb. Fleming MacKell and Howie Meeker took several months for a reply. I wrote to Wally Stanowski and Murray Armstrong twice, because I never had a reply for months, so twice is the charm I guess. I received autographs from these players in roughly this order:

Gaye Stewart
Milt Schmidt
Elmer Lach
Jean Beliveau
Bobby Doerr-BBHOF
Henri Richard
Fleming MacKell
Howie Meeker
Wally Stanowski
Red Kelly
Bob Fillion
Murray Armstrong
Gus Mortson- received about 2 weeks ago.
Vic Lynn- just got it in the mail today.

I wrote to Butch Bouchard several months ago without a reply, so 3 weeks ago I wrote to him c/o Montreal Canadiens and I am sending one off to the Montreal Canadiens Alumni too. I'm still waiting for Bill Chadwick, Al Suomi, Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio.

I used all of the addresses from the old master list. I copied the old list basically when I joined this board in Jan 09, so some of the addresses might have changed since then.

Did you include $ for Delvecchio? He now charges $10 each.

I didn't send Mr Delvecchio any money. When I had the old master list, it said he charges $75 for autographs, which in my opinion in ridiculous. If I had known he only charged $10, I would have sent him that. He played for Detroit with my uncle, Warren Godfrey, so I am hoping that he will sign for free :)

Today, I had a reply from Bill Chadwick's daughter I'm assuming, saying that Bill is 94 and too ill to sign and she thanked me for my letter. She returned, my card back and also included what looks like two computer print outs with his signature on them. The paper looks like what you get from a camera. The signatures on them are shaky, but they don't look like ink. I mailed a letter to Mr Chadwick on Oct 4 or 5 and the letter I received today was marked Oct 31. I wish I had mailed him earlier.

He passed away just recently

I actually learned that he passed away on this board the day he did and I read it in the paper the next day. I was excited when I saw the envelope with a stamp saying Oct. 21 on it, since it was mailed two days before passed away, thinking that maybe, just maybe he had signed my card. I was a little upset that I didn't write to him sooner...

i mailed to him on october 5 (recieved on the 19th) and was lucky enough to get his signature on two photos, an 8x10 and a 4x6, as well as a short note from his companion joanie. i did include a couple of extra photos if joanie wanted to keep them, which see did.

Today I received my letter back from Al Suomi and he answered my questions ! He also signed my 1990 Pro Set Chicago Blackhawks card. I asked him if he could add the season he played with them on it and he even put 36-37 and he included a signed index card saying the team name and year. I couldn't be happier with this success because I read on this forum that somebody got their letter back unsigned about a week or so. I waited so long to write to him and I was worried that I wouldn't get a reply from him. I have to say, for a man who recently turned 96, he still has a good memory and nice hand writing.

I can't read the post office stamping when the letter was mailed to me, but I wrote to Mr Suomi Oct 4th or 5th, so I am assuming it was two weeks there and two back.

Today I received my puck and small book signed by Elmer Lach. He signed it "Elmer Lach 16 HOF 66 SC 3" I asked if he could put SC 44, 46 53, but he put 3 for the amount of cups he won. He didn't answer my questions this time and he kept 2 of my hockey cards. I was lucky to get it back at all because he stapled shut the bubble wrap envelope, instead of using the adhesive lol. This is my first puck that I have ever gotten signed, so its extra special. It took 12 days total, which is faster than I expected. I would like to mail another puck and the same small book to Butch Bouchard, but i'm affraid that I won't get the book back. Here is a link to the book that Mr Lach signed for me. He actually gave me this book when I wrote to him earlier in the year:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Montreal-Canadiens-RARE,-Ring-of-Honor-Book-SGA-100th_W0QQitemZ350279085601QQ

Edit: This is not my book on ebay, its only a link showing the same kind of book that he signed for me. I do not sell any autographs I get in person or ttm.

Would you happen to have any extra Red Wings cards signed by Warren Godfrey? I'd love to trade for one for my ALL TIME RED WINGS collection. Shoot me an email if you have anything to trade, uncleguyguy@aol.com

I was just a kid when he died, so I don't have any of his autographs. My mum use to have a bunch of programs signed by the Red Wings teams in the 50's that Warren Godfrey gave to her, but she gave them away to other relatives many years before I was born. Yeah, I wasn't too happy when I learned that she gave them away lol

I'm trying to collect autographs of NHLers who played from the 1930's all the way up the 60's or a little later if their careers ended into the 70s. I joined this forum too late, because some of the 1930's vets had passed away within a year or a few months before I started reading this forum, like Bob Blake, Ray Getliffe, Don Metz and Lorne Carr (if they all were still signing the last year of their life) I was lucky enough to get 4 autographs from players who played in the NHL in the '30s anyways. Most of my other autographs are from players who played in the '40s and '50s (see my list above) I don't collect any autographs from players who are playing in the NHL right now because I'm interested in the history, which is why I only collect players who played decades ago.

I live in Ontario Canada, so if there's any shows in the US, I won't be going to them.

Today I received my two cards back signed by Connie Dion and he added another one signed. I think it was printed off by a computer, because its not thick paper. Mailed Oct 25, so it took almost a month.

I'm still waiting for: Ted Lindsay, Alex Delvecchio, Butch Bouchard, Fern Flaman, Tod Sloan, John Mahaffy and Bill Gadsby.

There are some more players who played in the '40s and '50s I would like to write to, but I don't have anything to send them. I only have a few 1990 Pro Set team logo cards left to mail out and I used up all of my 75th anniversary NHL logo cards up. Does anybody on this forum happen to make custom index cards with pictures of the player and the team logo on them ?

I received my NY Rangers card signed by Edgar Laprade today.

I also received my Blackhawks card signed by Emile Francis and he signed my other card that Connie Dion signed. He also added a signed picture and answered my questions too! great signer !

I received all 4 of my cards unsigned by Fern Flaman. I had a little sheet of paper typed up saying that he charges $5 per signature because people were selling his on ebay. I sent him $2 for postage and he returned that at least.

$5.00 for a Hall of Famer from the '40's, '50's, and early '60's sounds like a steal to me. For a measley $20.00, you get all your stuff signed. I'd jump at that chance. He's not getting any younger and his signature is not getting any steadier so don't wait too long. If I had waited, I'd never have gotten the likes of Frank Brimsek, Red Horner, and Art Coulter.

I agree $5 for Fern Flaman autographs is a pretty good deal, but I wasn't sure if he was charging that at the time when I wrote to him.

I wish I had gotten Red Horner's autograph, but unfortunately, I didn't know what his address was, same for Frank Brimsek and Art Coulter. How did you end up finding the address for those old time players ? Red Horner was the last living NHLer who played in the 1920s and the last living Leaf from their 1932 Cup winning team, so that makes his extra special !

When I started collecting hockey autographs in the mid to late '80's, address lists were pretty primitive. You'd buy some guys list of 50 names/addresses and maybe 20 were still good--but those were 20 more than you had before. I once wrote Frank Udvari from one of those lists and it came back RTS with the notation that he hadn't lived at that address in 10 years. Somewhere along the way, I picked up an address on Brimsek and got him twice before he passed. Coulter's address came from autograph collector Pat Quinn (I think) who tracked him down in a nursing home in Alabama. I lived near Pat and managed to get that addy from him. Finally, someone had Horner signing at a show or private signing somewhere near or in Toronto. I think it was $30 or $35 but he put a great signature on one of those '85 HOF cards (made by Cartophilium). Story was that his eyesight was failing and he wasn't sure if he wanted to bother with the surgery since he was so old. A doctor did the check up on him and said Red had another 10 years in him so Red did the surgery. I think he lived another 5 or so after that. I've managed to get quite a few of the old time HOF's on those 1985 HOF cards. Besides the abovementioned 3, I've got Tom Johnson, Olmstead, Moore, Rearden, Lach, Bouchard, Henri Richard, Kelly, Apps, Kennedy, Stanley, Schmidt, Brimsek, Boivin, Rayner, Bathgate, Mosienko, Francis, Lumley, Ullman, Lindsay, Wirtz, Molson, Butterfield, Lebel, Pollock, Sinden, Ballard, Ivan, Dilio, Pavelich, Udvari, Storey, Ashley, and Chadwick. I love those cards and will probably get another 15 or so done in the next year or so.

I wish I had known about those addresses earlier, but I was born in the '86, so I couldn't have gotten too many of the real old time players. Its amazing how many of those autographs you have on the '85 set ! Do you have a website with your autographs ?

No website yet but I just bought a scanner/printer so maybe I'll figure it out and get something up and going over my Christmas break. When I do, I'll let you know.

My first success in months!

Today I received my Boston Bruins pro set card signed by Murray Henderson. He also answered questions from my letter and apologized for taking so long, and he added a signed picture. I mailed the letter out in November of 2009 I think, but it was sure worth the wait.

Emile "Butch" Bouchard- I received my 2 cards back unsigned, but he for some reason signed the plastic sleeve they were in...

I guess this is a half success :s

Its been a while since I've had any success with hockey players, but today I received my card signed by Fern Flaman. He also included "HOF 1990" like I requested and he answered some of my questions. He charges $5 for his autograph.

I think there are only 10 or so HOFers still alive who started their NHL career in the 1940s, so I'm very pleased with this!

Bert Olmstead- Today I received my 2 pro set team logo cards (Blackhawks and Leafs) back signed and he also added his own signed parkhurst reprint.

Does anybody have anymore Montreal Canadiens team logo cards from the 1990-91 Pro Set that they wouldn't mind giving up :) ?

How long did the Olmstead take - I have an envelope out to him for about a month.

P.S. I don't have any blank Habs logo cards - just signed ones if you wanted to trade.

Feel free to email me.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't sell or trade any of my autographs.

I forgot to post here two days ago when I received my 5 cards back signed from Bobby Hull. He added "1961 Stanley Cup Champions" on the Blackhawks logo card like I requested! It took roughly 2 months for this success, so I was getting a little worried, but it was worth the wait :D
