Hello all,

I just recently joined the forum, though I know a few of you through collecting. I have mostly focused on collecting the autographs of deceased HOFers, but I recently decided to start to collect autographs TTM. This website has already been extremely helpful and I look forward to contributing as much as possible.

My goal is to collect the autographs of the 50 greatest living HOFers as well as some others on their rookie cards. Here are my successes to date:

TTM:
Stan Mikita, 25 days, c/o work address, sent money
Dickie Moore, 11 days, c/o work address (signed card and corrected the back as the name and birthdate on the back is for his brother)
Milt Schmidt, 7 days, c/o home, sent requested donation ($10), goes to cancer research
Norm Ullman, 11 days, c/o home

I added $40, but I have heard he usually charges $25. I was hoping the extra money would make him a bit more willing to sign, especially since I was sending him a high dollar card. I guess it worked.

You want to take my autograph i will give you free of cost:P

Only if you plan on getting elected to the HOF :-)

I don't have a problem paying for a HOF players autograph TTM, if that is what it is going to take to get a card signed. Mikita is a bit pricey, but I was also sending him a $200 card that I wanted to make sure I would get back. If you read through the threads here it says he will usually ask for $25-40 for an auto, so I aired on the side of caution.

I could be wrong, but I believe he does 1-2 private signings through WG authentics per year. It costs $199/card, if I remember correctly. I found the information on www.gretzky.com.

Yeah, $199 would definitely be steep if you had to get 4 cards done. I got him to sign an OPC rc, so it actually cost me less to get the card and then get it signed vs. buying an already signed one.

Today was a good TTM day:

Eddie Giacomin, 9 days, c/o home, 2/1, sent $10. Mr. Giacomin ran a clinic that I was a part of about 20 years ago, so I was happy to get this one back. Was nice enough to sign the rookie card I sent and added a personalized hall of fame card.
Alex Delvecchio, 10 days, c/o office, 1/1, sent $10
Dick Duff, 19 days, c/o home, 2/1. Signed rookie card and sent additional signed picture.
Gilbert Perreault, 20 days, c/o home, 1/1, sent $10
Ted Lindsay, 26 days, c/o home, 2/1, Signed rookie card and sent back additional signed postcard.

SeanieB21
December 20th, 2010, 04:21 PM
Fern Flaman - 12 days, c/o home, 2/2, sent $5/auto

And my first semi-strike out:.

Rod Gilbert - 11 days, c/o home, sent rookie card to be signed, $20, and letter about meeting him 20 years ago when he a Giacomin did the clinic together. Received back a personalized postcard, my $20, and on my letter there was a note saying "Rod is unable to sign - value $300" and signed J.C.

Anyone know what that means? I know he is difficult because of charities through the Rangers, but the card is not worth $300 and I don't think they would want $300 for him to sign the card.

Right now there is a unsigned 62 TOPPS rookie card for sale on E-BAY nm for $200 i think what they are saying if he signed this that would be a ball park price that the card would be worth.

Just got back from the holidays so these came in some time in the last week.

Yvon Cournoyer, 29 days, c/o Habs, 1/1. Definitely happy to get my rookie card back signed as it seems many have gotten their cards back unsigned lately.
Frank Mahovlich, from private signing 12/12, had rookie card signed
Dino Ciccarelli, from private signing 12/18, had rookie card signed

I have been reading your thread and no offense but I think it is INSANE to have rookie cards signed! Some of the cards you have had signed are worth hundreds of dollars unsigned but their value drops significantly once signed.

I know they're for a collection and not for re-sale but I'd hold on to the older rookie cards and get them to sign other cards.

Just my opinion as I collect cards as well and one of my collection is Maple Leafs Rookies. Very expensive to track down some of them!

Just an example of the values of the rookie cards you have had signed:

Rod Gilbert = $150
Frank Mahovlich = $500
Dick Duff = $100
Dino Ciccareli = $20
Ted Lindsay = $300
Bill Gadsby = $60
Leo Boivin = $60

Personally, I enjoy getting their rookie cards signed. Yes, sometimes it is expensive, but at the same time it something I enjoy doing and will keep it going. For card collectors, I am sure they would feel it devalues the card, but for autograph collectors I think the card keeps value or even will have added value. That is just my opinion, specifically as an autograph collector.

I primarily deal with deceased HOFers and other deceased stars. That collection is taking a bit of a back seat right now as there is nothing available that I need. I decided to start doing this signed rookie collection as I love the thrill of collecting and I also like idea of collecting all these great players on their rookie cards. Since these are not for sale, I am not really worried about their resale value.

My goal started as trying to obtain the autographs of the 50 greatest living HOFers (based on the 1998 Hockey News list of the Top 100 players) on their rookie card. Now that I am getting close to that goal, I have expanded to other HOFers. Again, it more of a pleasure to collect these than worrying about resale value. That is why I have gotten rookies signed of guys like Orr, Howe, Hull, Gretzky, Mahovlich, Keon, etc.

You can check out my deceased HOF player collection at www.TheBroderickCollection.com. I hope to at some point add my signed rookie collection to the website as well.

Hey Sean
Hmm, I'm not tghe only one on the Rod Gilbert thing.
Got the same postcard as you some time ago and my unsigned card back. No note like that though.
Why doesn't the guy just sign our cards? Personalize them if he wants if he thinks we want to sell them...
I nearly have all living HOFers as of those who were still alive at the time Mr.Worseley past away.

I would have been totally fine with it being personalized. I think with Gilbert, it might have to do with something with the charities he does through the Rangers. I was hoping that the letter I sent mentioning the clinic I was a part of that he did 20 years ago might have helped, but I guess not. I was wondering since my note was signed "J.C." if Gilbert even read/got to see the note. I am trying to find the picture of Gilbert and I from back then and if I can find that maybe I will send that to get signed and try again with my card.

I always put delivery confirmation on the TTMs that I send out in the States so I can track the cards. The one to Pulford was redirected to Florida, so he might be down there for awhile. I don't know if mail from the Wirtz company will be forwarded down there or if they'll wait until he gets back.

It was $25 plus shipping. If you would like to send something in, I would suggest going on the website and calling them first. The issue is that the store is in Massachusetts and I think Cheevers only comes up to the store a couple of times a year, so they do not want a bunch of stuff laying around when they are unsure of his schedule. They had me call back every couple of weeks for about 4 months until I finally got a hold of them at the last minute and got it in for his most recent visit.
