View Full Version : Most Overated Player

To follow up my first question "Who's the must underated player?" I'd like to find out who you think the most overated player is.
Chris Pronger is my top pick for this title. Although undoubtedly skillful, much of his sucess is due to the fact that he can get away with doing anything. He's a cheap player who gets away with it, which in turn creates a ridiculous ammount chances for he and his team.
Teemu Selanne is also overated, not as a hockey player, but as a team player. He's said for months that he will almost certainly be back with the Sharks next season and that he believes they can still go all the way next year, to do nothing but decline his player option. If its because he wants more money, he's even more shallow, because his production this season (although he had his share of bad luck) was not worth the money he was paid.

Holik isn't overrated.
Yes, he is making too much money but he is not overrated.

9 million for a defensive center who'll contribute nothing to the offense = over rated....

nyranger is correct. Being overrated has nothing to do with salary, just how much skill a player has compared to how much skill he's getting credit for.

He's never been known to be an offensive player. He's not going to give you 30-40 goals a year.
Believe me, there is not one GM out there that wouldn't want him on their team.

not for nine million....

Please explain to me how his making $9 million has anything to do with being overrated. It's like talking to a 5 year old. Unless your next comment intelligently explains how money has to do with being overrated not just over-payed or suggests another overrated player, then stop complaining about the $ that Holik is making. Beside, if I had $9 million per year to give Holik, I would.

I'm sorry nyranger2001 and GrasValley you guys or writh
but one thing is sure. Bobby Holik was overated by Glen Sather

Once again, having been overated by Sather means one thing: he's overpayed. This is not a unique circumstance either. Athletes in all major pro sports are way overpayed. That's a whole different issue. Are there any other overated players? Other than Holik!

I haven't had much of a chance to see Bure play in the last couple seasons. What makes you say he's overated?

Overrated? I'm going to say Val Bure as well. He had one good year, then fails to reach those point totals when made the go-to guy. He'll be no more than a second-line winger.
I'd also say Chris Simon is an overrated scorer, as he will never get more than 20 goals in a season again.
I'm also wondering if Pierre Turgeon is overrated. He was given lots of opertunities in Dallas but failed to do anything. Now he's waived. Is it overrated or is he on the downside of his career?
Donald Audette is hugely overrated as well, as he is always hurt. He has the talent to score with the right linemates, as proven in Atlanta, but usually just floats.
Bobby Holik isn't overrated, but overpaid. Just as Paul Kariya and Curtis Joseph are overpaid. They still are good, but no way am I going to pay Paul Kariya 10 mil.

Ed Belfour. Maybe he just chokes a lot, but I think he's overrated.

Eric Lindros .. His best playing days are over. He finally has an injury free season and he posts just 19 goals in 81 games.

He played in all the games, but they WERENT injury free, like you said. And besides, the man had Matt Barnaby playing alongside him at times during the year; MATT BARNABY! what do you expect him to do when with three guys pounding on him in the slot? I'm sure Bure playing 30 games helped out Lindros a lot huh?

Most definitely has to be AWOL-Paul Kariya! He's also a lousy captain.

Curtis Joseph. The guy is called great by most, yet he has no awards other than the King Clancy award (community service). I think he's played in an all-star game, but that's it.

Jocelyn Thibault. He wins 33 games one year and thats it. No wonder why the Habs traded him for Jeff Hackett.

Mats Sundin. I'm admittedly biased because I'm a Leaf hater, but I still don't think he is worth $9 million or the captaincy.
