What do you guys think? I thnk Mario made a terrible decision. Olczyk has no experiance, and has only done colour for the last couple of seasons. If this was who they were going to hire, they should have just kept Rick Kehoe. Maybe Olczyk would be better suited to coaching in Wilkes-Barre, to get his feet wet. With a young team like that of Pittsburgh they should have hired a teacher, maybe Ted Nolan, Alain Vigneault, or Ron Low. That's my opinion, what's yours?

The team is that bad no matter who coaches them will fail to make them a playoff team again, soon. Not all coaches would take over a rebuilduing job as well. Add the fact that the pens donīt have too many $$$ to spend.

TED NOLAN 73 WINS 72 LOSSES
RON LOW O WINNING SEASONS
VIGNEAULT 104 WINS 105 LOSSES ALL 500 COACHES?

ED IS ONLY 36 AND STILL COULD BE PLAYING AFTER OVER 1000 NHL GAMES. HE HAS HAD THE EXPIERIENCE OF PLAYING WITH
AMONTE,CHELIOS,GILMOUR,MARIO,JAGR,LEETCH, MESSIER RON FRANCIS,HOUSLEY,WENDEL CLARK AND DENIS SAVARD
I THINK HE MIGHT HAVE LEARNED SOMTHING OVER 15 YEARS?
NOT TO MENTION ALL HIS FORMER COACHES.

I think the main reason they signed Olczyk is that they can't even afford a coach with some experience
Also NOLAN, LOW or VIGNEAULT wouldn't
be a much better decision
What I think is that they should hire someone from the juniors that would at least have some coaching experience
and most important is that those coaches are used to work with young players 'cause that's what the Pens primarily have
And I totally disagree with STU - because playing with guys like AMONTE,CHELIOS,GILMOUR,MARIO,JAGR...
doesn't automatically make a coach successful and I don't really see him playing again after a 3 year break(he's not Mario)
I guess time will tell but I don't see Olczyk coaching for more than 1,5 years 'cause it's hard to stay longer on a rebuilding team

Go Pens (been their fan for a long time now) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Vigneault would have been the best pick. He made a lot of progress with a horrible Habs team, He has had plenty of success in junior and is itching to coach in the NHL again. He coaches a good system, players listen to him and get along with him. He was coaching the Rocket of the QMJHL last year so I doubt he'd be too expensive. If I was in charge of making this decision Vigneault would be the top of my list.

Nobody is expecting anything out of Pittsburgh this year (or in the next few years for that matter), so why spend lots of $$$ on a name coach? Eddie O may just surprise a few people.
