This season could be the last for many players.

I listed a few players whose numbers could be retired after their retirement. Not sure how long they play but...

This list is including players who are at least 35 years old. (born 1968 or earlier)Some of the players listed below are recently retired.

Chicago Blackhawks
7 Chris Chelios
Detroit Red Wings
19 Steve Yzerman
Edmonton Oilers
11 Mark Messier
Los Angeles Kings
20 Luc Robitaille
New Jersey Devils
3 Ken Daneyko
4 Scott Stevens
15 John MacLean
New York Rangers
2 Brian Leetch
11 Mark Messier
Phoenix Coyotes
27 Teppo Numminen
St. Louis Blues
16 Brett Hull
Toronto Maple Leafs
17 Wendel Clark (honored)
Washington Capitals
12 Peter Bondra

If some of you have additions, please send them. Or you don't agree with my list.

Clark will most likely be honored, as Gilmour was, But if I was to guess who will be honored by toronto next, I would say Borje Salming. Sittler is up there but Salming isn't yet.

As soon as Trevor Linden retires, his number will be retired by the Canucks, that is a guarentee. Trevor is very close to passing Stan Smyl for the Canucks all time scoring lead, he won't hold it long with Naslund coming, but he should get it this year, or early next.

What about Tom Barraso with Pitsburg and Doug Gilmour with the Leafs
I don't know if it's already but Grant Fuhr with the Oilers,
Mike Vernon with the Flames

Gilmour is already honored by Toronto
Fuhr was honored earlier in the season by edmonton

Vernon has not, I personally doubt him too.

Although Vincent Damphousse is probably going to play another couple of seasons, I'd imagine the #25 will be retired in one or both of Montreal and San Jose in the somewhat near future.

Detroit won't retire Hasek's number. Buffalo possibly.

Roberts had number 10 in Calgary.

First Montreal would never honour Damphousse's #in MON you have to reach a certain platuim to get your face on the wall of great and Denis Savard was the last.

Second Montreal has a rule that you have to ask a former great to wear their number. Langdon had to ask Houle to wear 15
but a list of Habs that should be honoured are
Dryden 29
Robinson 19
Gainey 23
Shutt 22
S Savard 18
D Savard 18
Roy 33

Thanks ES84, your right. I meant Buffalo but put in Detroit.

How did Damphousse not reach a certain "platuim." First of all, I've never heard of a "platuim" before. Secondly, the man has been consistently great throughout his career including his stint as Montreal's captain. I will admit, I don't know how the minds of the quebecois work, but judging by his numbers and his character, I don't see any reason not to put his number up.

why would montreal retire damphousse?
549 games 184 goals 314 a. 498 pts pete mahovolich played 581
223 g 346 a 569 pts and i would not retire his number.

when you have players like larry robinson, guy lapointe, shutt, lemaire, cournoyer and dryden

shutt 871 g 408 g 368 a 776 pts
yvon cournoyer 968 g 428 g 435 a 863 pts

Ok, I'll buy that. That is a good point. They have had a hell of a lot great players and they can't put them all up. I though Vinny had done more than that with Montreal, but I didn't have any numbers on hand to look at.

I agree with Bruin and Reebokkid. Montreal's honored players are at another level vs most other teams, There are some down right legendary players there, Damphousse just doesn't measure up, he might with San Jose, but Montreal is a different story, St.Patrick should and probably will get up there, but I can't see any other Canadien being honored.

No offense to any other team, but Montreal's honored/retired are simply at another level, and I am a Leafs Fan!

Adam Graves #9 with the NY Rangers. I think 9 was his number in NY. I know it was with SJ. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes he did indeed wear #9. I don't think Mike Richter has been mentioned yet.

Gary Suter should have his number retired with the Flames. Maybe the Hawks and Sharks, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I agree Mike Richter should be honoured by the NYR. He was the biggest factor in their last cup win and played his heart out for them until he literally couldn't play any more.

Florida didn't retire Vanbiesbrouck's # right?

He had some bad press earlier last year when he said a racial slur at an OHL player. I doubt Florida will retire his number.
