That was some cheap shot. I hope Bertuzzi gets suspended until Moore can come back.

According to Avs newletter..Bertuzzi is
suspended the rest of the season and
the nHL is cosidering a suspension for the
04/05 season also.
I would have prohibited him from playing
in the NHL ever again...that was a cheap
shot...and could very easily have paralyzed Moore or killed him....

so far he is suspended the rest of the season and playoffs. and next year he will have to apply for reinstatement to the league. that was a definitely bad cheap shot. if he had hit him ne more while he was down i bet he woulda killed him. seriously a neck injury getting aggravated by some more punches is not good. luckily the avs got in there before it got worse.

As cheap a shot as it was, I think people (the media in particular) are overlooking the fact that it was an Av/Canuck game. NHL games don't get much more intense than theirs. Those two teams had been exchanging big hits and cheap shots over the last few games against each other, it just so happened that it got taken too far. I think the refs need to take a little bit of the blame for letting that series get out of hand long before Moore got pounded. I not saying we blame the officials, obviously Bertuzzi acted independently, but you have to look at the whole picture. I couldn't agree more with the suspension for this season and possibly next. If Moore can't play next season, then Bertuzzi doesn't play, but then let him in later. I don't think you can ban a person forever because of one mistake. If you saw the Bertuzzi press conference, he was obviously distraught and felt great remorse for his actions. So before you label Bertuzzi as a horrible person and say he should never play again; look at the whole picture. We as fans have no clue what it's like too be on the ice in that intense an atmosphere. Did anybody else find it ridiculous that the Canucks were fined $250,000? The organization had nothing to do with it as far as we know, and even if they did, isn't it enough that they lose one of the top players in the league? If you fine the Canucks, you might as well fine the refs too.

could the instigator rule be put into this?
Look at what started this, Moore's hit on Naslund. It put a can of gasoline on an already heated fire. But, do you believe that hit happens if the instigator rule isn't there? If he has thoughts of tangling with May, Bertuzzi, or Brookbank would he have stretched out and plunked Nazzy? No, and such everything else that happened after that doesn't happen.
Secondly, do you believe Bertuzzi would have reached out and did that to Moore if he knew Kasparitis, Blake, or any other av would kick his ass for it? no.
The best way to police the players is to let them do it themselves.
If anyone went after Gretzky the wrong way while with the Oilers, how many guys would be right there to kick the guys ass? McSorley, McCelland, Smith, Semenko, Fogolin?
I don't condone what Todd did, but putting him out of hockey for life is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Do you honestly think he went out there with the intention of criplling or murdering him? hell no, why don't you just put 2 red horns on his head and call him satan while you guys are at it? He deserved the punishment he got, I think its fair. But, this is not the first time a similar event has occured, and it won't be the last.
Unless the instigator rule is removed.
Gary Bettman... let the players police the players. Like they did for decades before your worthless butt got the big job.

Thank you Harvey, I completely agree

There is one point people seem to keep forgeting...it was premeditated. Bertuzzi and some of the other Canucks stated before the game that their would be retaliations and that Moore should watch his back. Watch the tape...Bertuzzi was
following Moore around before the incident occured. Accidents happen...but
this was not one...maybe Bertuzzi didnt
mean for it to go as far as it did....but
he brought it on himself...As far as the
apology....I don't buy it..he's sorry to be
suspended and have a fine....He is not even a good actor...

I totally agree with you, hullsgirl! It was premeditated and the worst act of cowardess I've ever witnessed. And there's only one Satan - that's Miroslav Satan!

You're the fans that are ruining hockey by wanting to eliminate any intensity in the game. You have that stupid "play nice" attitude. If you don't like the rough stuff, don't watch the game. Yeah it was premeditated, did you think they weren't going to retaliate to defend Naslund? And of course it was no accident, nobody ever said it was. It was a vicious hit, but once again, just because you sit on your couch watching the game on t.v., doesn't give you the experience of being on the ice in the middle of an intense rivalry game. Hey unregistered: You're calling Bertuzzi a coward? I'd like to see you tell that to his face; then we'll see who the real coward is. Maybe Gary Bettman can take over the WHA2 and make it a sissy sport so that you morons can have something to watch. Bertuzzi a coward: what a joke.

I guess some people are too stupid to know the difference between intensity and criminality. Bertuzzi has had a long history of violence and if I were to tell him he were a coward to his face I hae no doubt that he'd do the same to me that he did to Moore, despite the fact that I'm nearly a foot shorter and 100 pounds lighter than him. You may want to read about your hero's past and think again about what a diety he is.

I don't mind fights and checks etc..This went well beyond
a fight or check If i did that to a person my a** would be in jail for assault...that would be the least charge against me.
Excuse me...I play hockey..I am a goalie
and I have gotten into my share of fights.
There are retaliations..that is expected in the game...but this went to far. Would
you be saying the same thing if Bertuzzi
had killed him.??
I dont want hockey to be "nice"..but there
has to be limits and when you cross over
you deserve to be punished and if the circumstances warrant it...banned for life.
slightly OT...So are you telling me that
what Harding did to Kerrigan was ok?
Having someone bust her kneecap???
Same thing as Bertuzzi....I hope the police
charge him and he gets jail time.

going by your argument unregistered, by using a players history to convict him, does that mean Ulf Samuelsson(large history) gets prosecuted, but Ilya Kovalchuk(clean) doesn't?
Staying with you unregistered, what would happen if someone called you a coward? would you shake his hand and say thank you? would you buy him a present? or would you show some hostility towards him, like anyone would.
Hullsgirl, how many times have you heard that in hockey? what were the avs and wings saying during the height of their rivalry a few years back? whenever two teams get a big hate-on for each other, and the intense media of today talk to them right after each game, your gonna get threats back and forth. Its only natural, their idrenaline(sp?) is still high, they are still carrying the emotion of the game. I will tell you this, If I were in Brad May's shoes after the Naslund-Moore incident, I would done the same thing. My captain just got plunked by some snot-nosed kid, I'll get him back!
Hullsgirl, you don't believe the mans tears? How low are you, by the sounds of it you believe he is laughing behind the cameras, and getting high-fives from fellow canucks. WHAT THE F*CK DO YOU BASE YOUR PATHETIC ACCUSATION ON?
I correct my previous statement, "putting him out of hockey for life is the stupidest thing I've ever heard" is incorrect. Your statement "As far as the apology....I don't buy it..he's sorry to be
suspended and have a fine....He is not even a good actor..." is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Before you acuse someone of attempted murder 1, know what your talking about first.

I am an ex police officer...I know what I am talking about...I can read body language pretty darn well....If I couldnt
I would be dead...
Read the statement..I said what if...I didnt accuse him of killing anyone...I am just saying if that if that were you or I who did
what Bertuzzi did...we would be in jail.
Threats go back and forth...but if you carry
it to far you deserve jail time...anyone..
not just Bertuzzi...I still stand by what I said...Bertuzzi carried it to far.
You are entitled to your opinion as am
I..Name calling has no place on this board..Did I call you stupid for voicing
your opinion? NO...I would appreciate the
same respect...You dont have to call someone stupid or their opinion stupid just because they don't agree
with you.

Geez! I was surprised no one mentioned the sucker punch that Jimmy Mann did on Pittsburgh Penguins Paul Gardner. That one started when Paul Gardner cross checked Doug Smail of the Winnipeg Jets across his face breaking his jaw, and no penalty was called. Smail had to wear a proctective gaurd around his broken jaw when he played. I cannot remember the amount of games that Mann recieved, but criminal charges were laid. Bertuzzi got what he deserved. He had done this thing before when he punched a linseman, and had another incident when he was with the Canucks a year or 2 ago. Hey Todd, isn't Karma great. What goes around comes around...........Maybe you should be a bit more accessible when people want to interview you, and kids want your autograph...........Now to hear what other people think...........Todd take a year off, and maybe see what is happening overseas. Go play in Britain where Hooliganism is the way out there.

wrong- the brits wanted nothing to do with McSorley- and his brother was a coach there-!!!
i doubt they'd want Todd either
when in Utah he was known for bad attitude toward fans and enjoying picking on the little guy
hopefully Steve will come out of this OK
neck fractures of anykind have a way of ending your contact sport career
personally i haven't the least amount of sympathy toward Bertuzzi
