Well, it was just annouced that Khabibulin will not be able to play, The team had already annouced their 3 goalies...

Nikolai Khabibluin
Evgeni Nabokov
Maxim Sokolov

So, they will have to name a new goalie, that annoucement should come soon. It looks like Nabokov will be the #1 though.

Khabibulan will never play for russia as long as Tikinov is envolved with the team. Remember when Tikinov took Khabibulan's gold medal away from him @ the Championships in 199?. Coaches were not allowed medals, just the players. Khabibulan is still ticked off @ that.

Last I heard Nabokov was going to play this summer. I could be wrong, but I think Nabby still plans to play.

The IIHF annouced today that they will allow Nabokov to play in any IIHF events.

So, it sounds like Nabby can play.

Nabby was going to play in the World Cup regardless of the IIHF ruling because the World Cup is an NHL, NHLPA event that the IIHF has no control over. I haven't heard anything about any surgery that the other guys were talking about. There has been no mention of any surgery on the Sharks website or any other hockey site I've seen. Every report I've read says Nabokov will be suited up for team Russia this summer.
