The birthplace of hockey what is your problem??? Why is the Stanley Cup there? I thought the Tampa Bay players had it, and what are those other two cups?
The birthplace of hockey??? wow, you do have guts saying that knowing just how wrong you are, I have just one last question? Are you smoking, shooting or snorting?

First of all, what are the Gibson an McNaughton cups? Second, I heard that the game of hockey was developed either by the Micmaq of the Nova Scotia, the Shinny players of Scotland, or by British soldiers mixing the Iroqois Lacrosse game and the Scottish Shinny game. But I read that know one knows for sure who invented hockey. Also why would the Stanley Cup be without the TB Lightning players? And why would the Red Wings Alumni be playing the Michigan Tech Alumni? Finally, what are you talking about?

As far as "birthplace" It's being used really loosely, but the league in Houghton was actually the first professional league. Like the rest of you, I have no clue what the other trophies mentioned were. Perhaps they were able to secure the Stanley Cup with Bill Davidson, the TB owner who lives in Michigan.

So? the first professional league means they created hockey? If you want to put it that way, then Canada invented North American Football! gee, the CFL was around before the NFL was, so that must mean that Football was born in Canada.
It sounds like some moron who is desperate for the best media he can get for his event, so he gets Howe and the cup and clings to that. Thats all fine with me, but the Lies is were it can stop. Hockey was played for over 30 years before that cup of coffee league appeared.
I'm sorry but any American who says Hockey in anyway was born in America, seriously needs something cramed up where the sun don't shine.
All respects to Gordie, but one thing Howe DOESN'T do is refuse public appearances. The guy is everywhere, its to the point where his autograph is almost worthless. So, Gordie's appearance, particularly in Michiagn doesn't surprise me. At the rate he is going Little Johnny could get Gordie for his birthday party.

TD, as sad as it is, what you said is absolutely true. It sounds like it could be a nice local event, but in all reality, it sounds like they're making it much bigger than it really is.

I wouldn't mind it to be a big event. You know some celebrities, tv time, 2 teams with alittle history, promote hockey in the States. There are some good things that could come of it.
But like I said, This guy sounds like he is desperate for Media coverage, so he exagerates the meaning of the event, and gets Gordie Howe, the public appearance whore.

Please note that this event is the birthplace of PRO hockey, not hockey all together. In 1904 James Dee was the coach of the Portage lake team that had future hall of famers like cyclone taylor. This area in Michigan is where players first got payed to play the game well it was still amateur sport in canada and they were playing for the stanley cup in canada.
As for the McNaughton Cup is played for by the winner of the premier college hockey league in the country the WCHA. The winners of this trophy are teams like Minnesota Golden Gophers, North Dokata Fighting Sioux, Michigan Tech Huskies, UMD Bulldogs, Wisconsin Badgers and Denver Pioneers. The McNaughton Cup is on of the three oldest cups in the country with the stanley and gibson cups.
The Gibson cup is a local cup given to between the portage lake pioneers and Calumet wolverines. This is a local senior league.
