Who is your vote for the best captain(s) and worst captain(s) in the NHL? They may be good because they stand up for their teammates or because they quietly lead by example. Both are good traits of a captain.

Best Captain: Tie between Yzerman (Detroit) and Sakic (Colorado)

Honourable Mention: Saku Koivu (Montreal)

Worst Captain: There are a few teams that don't really have a definite captain, but of the full time captains I would say that the grossly overrated Mats Sundin is the worst captain in the league.

Sundin is definitely the worst captain. He is not vocal enough. An example of a good captain is Scott Stevens. He may not be a goal scorer, but he gets his players moving.

Worst-Sundin
Best-Stevens and Sakic

Sundin will never bring a cup to Toronto.

If Sundin was a good captain, I would admit it. But he's not. If he's such a good captain, why did they lose to the Devils 2 years in a row? They are better off with Francis as captain.

oh I see, Sundin sucks becuase THE TEAM lost to Jersey 2 straight years... well if thats the case, then Koivu is a pathetic captain.

Using your Logic.....
1) If he were a good captain, then why has Montreal missed the playoffs in 4 of the last 6 years?
2) Mark Messier sucks the big one, the Rangers haven't made the playoffs since 1995.
3) Lemeiux must be a bad captain, What have the Penguins done lately?

sorry, just making a point. What the hell do playoff results have to do with a Captains ability.

I'm not saying Sundin is the best captain around (he ain't!) but you two baised hab fans ain't about to call him "definitely the worst captain"

Actually the Rangers haven't made the playoffs since 1997. Don't make it sound worse than it already is. LOL ;-)

The Rangers need to rebuild. Losing Richter did not help. Messier is only good for another year at most. They are better off without Lindros. He has that concussion problem and they would save alot of money.

The point is, you can't go calling someone a bad captain becuase of team results. Players, Coaches, Gm's, trainers, etc all have a hand it in, thats why its called a team game.

Oh, and my bad on the Rangers thing... 1997 it is. No need to make the suffering worse! I am very pleased to see the Rangers rebuilding, and not just buying anyone to replace a vacancy.

If Sundin is a bad captain, then how bad is the VERY vocal Daniel Alfredson, who has never captained his team past the Maple Leafs? ( Four series', four losses)

Man he must be bad. Andd I mean bad. He can't beat the worst captain in the league. So by your logic, Alfreson is the worst. By my logic, I like Jaques Lemaires Monthly Captaincy because it makes people work harder. Anyway, best captain is Chris Pronger, and the worst captain is/was Vincente Damphousse last year while still with San Jose.
