Quebec Citadelles Statistics and History [OHL]
The Quebec Citadelles were a junior hockey club based in the city of Quebec. The Citadelles had previously played in the Quebec Junior Hockey League up through the 1952-53 season, but the club's franchise was revoked when owner Frank Byrne defaulted a playoff game against the Montreal Junior Canadiens. The Quebec Junior Amateur Hockey Association awarded a new franchise to play in the city of Quebec for the 1953-54 season (the Frontenacs). Byrne associated his team with the Ontario Hockey Association for 1953-54.
In mid-December 1953, Frank Byrne sold the Citadelles to the owner of the Quebec Frontenacs of the QPJHL, Gerald Martineau, merging the Citadelles players into the Frontenacs roster. The Citadelles coach, Phil Watson, took over the helm of the Frontenacs. All Citadelles games were sticken from the OHA records.
The Frontenacs continued to play in the QPJHL. Once the sale was finished, the OHA Junior A teams agreed to play an interlocking schedule with the QPJHL teams for the rest of the 1953-54 season.
