Akron Americans Statistics and History
The Akron Americans were a minor professional hockey team based in Akron, OH playing in the International Hockey League during the 1948-49 season. Akron had previously fielded a team named the Stars in the Ohio State hockey league in the 1947-48 season, however with the IHL undergoing an expansion,Akron chose to join with the IHL's new Southern division for the 1948-49 season to play with teams from Louisville, Muncie, Toledo, and Milwaukee.
The Americans played in the Iceland Arena located at 1615 E. Market St. in Akron (a building later converted into a roller skating rink named Rollercade), however on January 11, 1949, the team announced that they would play their remaining games on the road. The team disbanded following the season.
