Chicago Express Statistics and History
The Chicago Express were a minor professional hockey team that played during the 2011-12 season. They were a member of the ECHL and played in the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates.
The Express were an expansion team for 2011-12. They were named in the spirit of Chicago's role as a transportation hub and as a nod to the railway car manufacturing business in the region. The nickname was selected as a result of a fan-based "name the team" contest. The Express logo depicted a train, and their shoulder patch logo was of a train whistle. The team was a secondary affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL, and a primary affiliate of the Springfield Falcons of the AHL.
On April 6, 2012, the Express announced that they would cease operations. Although no official reason was given, the team was last in the ECHL in attendance, drawing just 2,508 fans per game, about 2,000 fans fewer than the league average.
