Winnipeg Maroons Statistics and History [AHA]
The Winnipeg Maroons were a Minor Professional hockey team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, playing in the American Hockey Association from 1926 to 1928. The team was one of the original franchises from that league.
In August, 1928, reports in both Winnipeg and St. Louis stated that the Maroons franchise would be transferred to St. Louis and that Winnipeg would be dropped from the AHA because of its distance from the other AHA teams. The team's owner, W.J. Holmes, would not confirm the team's sale. In September, Holmes announced that he had sold the club to the Patrick brothers of the Pacific Coast, who hadoutbid the cities of Tulsa, St. Louis, and Newark. This report, however, appears to refer to the rights to the player contracts, since mention was made that ten players were involved in the deal, half going to Vancouver and the other half to Victoria.
